Are you a Serial Learner?

Well, I’ve since answered that very question for myself. " Am I a Serial Learner? ' The answer is no. Before I tell you why I’m not, allow me tell you what the term Serial Learner means. This is the person who loves to learn. I mean they’ve been to college, they have certification, they go to seminars, self help books out the wazoo ect. You know who I’m talking about. That one person at the party or the BBQ that knows everything, about everything, OMG! You feel me!

A serial learner loves to find out a little about something and then say that statement over and over, in 16 different ways using synonyms and metaphors. They are a wordsmith at best but no expert. They will have you believe that they are, but what truly defines an expert is their experience. You see a serial learner is a reader and/or listener. They are not doers. They can tell you how to do something, the best time to do something and the right thing to do base on their knowledge. However they haven’t done anything worth following. Their advice is fact base, but as we know facts can be manipulated.

So this brings me to why I am not a serial learner. Yes I read, go to seminars, listen to podcast, and follow true experts. What takes me out of the running for serial learner is the fact that I implement everything that I learn. I want to make my own assessment. I’m not going to lie; I was on the verge of becoming a serial learner. It took me about 2 years to start taking action.

Once you go from learning the natural step is in fact to do. Be that as it may, it’s more easily said than done. Because right after a person decides to do something here comes the question of HOW?

I realize & hopefully you as well, that how is an end result and not a first step. I mean the how in the sense of how to get it done right the first time around. If you have been on this earth for half the time I have you will have realized that nothing comes about like that. You practiced and implemented something or another.

So, I challenge you to do something & if you are doing something don’t get hung up on how you can do more. Just do it!
